GTA 6 install size on Xbox Series X

GTA 6 install size on Xbox Series X
150–200 GB E source
No official size yet. We use the same estimate as for PS5; the safety margin covers an Xbox package a few GB larger.
GTA 6 day-one patch
15–50 GB E source
Driffle estimates 15–30 GB and Stealthy Gaming 15–50 GB. We use the wider range.
Safety margin we add on top of install + patch
10 % E source
Our own rule of thumb. Consoles stage a download before unpacking it, and patches after launch need room too.

No official size exists yet. We use the PS5 estimate of 150–200 GB E source, and the safety margin covers an Xbox package a few GB larger.

The Microsoft Store product page shows the size once pre-load opens on November 12, 2026. We update this page the same day.

Xbox Series X storage: the box vs what you can use

Every console keeps part of its drive for the system. The usable column is what the storage settings screen shows on a fresh console.

Storage Expansion Card slot

Seagate Storage Expansion Card and WD_BLACK C50 (512 GB, 1 TB, 2 TB) plug into the rear slot and match the internal SSD; USB 3.1 drives of 128 GB+ can store (but not run) Series X|S optimized games. C source

Xbox keeps about 198 GB of the 1 TB drive for the system. No reviewer has measured the 2 TB Galaxy Black edition, so we assume the same reserve, about 1,800 GB usable, and mark that figure with an E badge.

Games made for Series X|S run only from the internal SSD or a licensed expansion card. A USB 3.1 drive can hold them and copy them back later, which is faster than downloading them again.

GTA 6 performance on Xbox Series X

Frame rate on consoles
30 fps C source
Said by Rob Nelson, co-studio head at Rockstar North. No 60 fps or 40 fps mode has been announced, and Rockstar has not ruled one out for later.
Internal resolution on base PS5 (trailer analysis)
~1440p, no dynamic resolution scaling R source
Digital Foundry estimate from the Extended Look footage, which appeared to run on a base PS5. Final-build numbers come after launch.

The 30 fps target applies to Series X as it does to PS5. Digital Foundry based its trailer analysis on the base PS5, and Pure Xbox, reporting on it, expects similar performance on Series X. Any difference in resolution or image quality will show in the first comparisons after launch.

  2. Park games on USB

Move the games you are not playing to any USB drive and copy them back later instead of re-downloading.

  3. Add storage
