How long will GTA 6 take to download?

At 100 Mbps the game takes 3 h 20 min to 4 h 27 min on PS5 or Xbox Series X, before the day-one patch. Enter your own speed below; the result uses the same size estimates as the rest of the site and tightens once the stores list the real size on November 12, 2026.

Your connection

Use the console's own test for a real number: on PS5, Settings › Network › Connection Status › Test Internet Connection; on Xbox, Settings › General › Network settings › Test network speed & statistics. 1 MB/s = 8 Mbps.

for the game itself at 100 Mbps (12.5 MB/s), the part you can pre-load. The best case at full line speed; Wi-Fi and busy launch-week servers only add to it.

How the time is calculated

Download time is size divided by speed. Stores list sizes in decimal gigabytes, and one gigabyte is 8,000 megabits, so a 150–200 GB E source package at 100 Mbps takes 3 h 20 min to 4 h 27 min. That is the best case at full line speed. Downloads run slower over Wi-Fi, while other devices stream, and when many players download at once, as they will at pre-load and launch.

Your plan's advertised speed is the most your line can carry. Run the console's own connection test and enter that number: it measures the connection the download will use.

How to make the download faster

  1. Start early

Pre-load opens a week before launch. Starting in the first days leaves time for a slow or interrupted download.

  2. Use a cable

A cable between the console and the router avoids Wi-Fi interference and walls. Pause other downloads and streams while the game downloads.

  3. Leave it in rest mode

Both consoles keep downloading while they sleep. On PS5, turn on Stay Connected to the Internet under Settings › System › Power Saving › Features Available in Rest Mode. On Xbox, choose Sleep under Settings › General › Power options.
