GTA 6 on PS5 Pro: install size and the 60 fps question

The PS5 Pro has the largest drive of any console on sale and the most GPU power. That makes the install easy, and it does not change the frame rate.

Will GTA 6 fit on PS5 Pro?

Short answer: yes, with 275 GB free. The panels show each model with an empty drive; use the calculator for your own free space.

PlayStation 5 Pro (2024, 2 TB)

Usable space 1,890 GB R source. GTA 6 needs 165 GB to 275 GB free, which is up to 15 % of an empty drive.

GTA 6, smallest estimate + patch 165 GBUp to the largest estimate + margin 110 GBLeft for everything else 1,615 GB
  • Digital only; the detachable disc drive is sold separately.
  • Its 2 TB drive is the largest in any console Sony or Microsoft sells today.

Storage is not a problem on the Pro. Sony leaves 1,890 GB of the 2 TB drive usable, so GTA 6 with the patch and margin takes 15 % of an empty console and leaves 1,615 GB free. If you fill that too, the M.2 slot takes the same drives as the standard PS5.

GTA 6 install size on PS5 Pro

GTA 6 install size on PS5 (all models)
150–200 GB E source
No official size yet. Upcomer reported a pre-release leak of nearly 200 GB, and HowToPlayHub puts the community estimate at 150–200 GB. The "677 GB" figure shared on social media has no source. GameCryst calls 228 GB "verified" and credits Rockstar Support and the PlayStation Store, but neither listed a size when we checked on October 22, 2026.
GTA 6 day-one patch
15–50 GB E source
Driffle estimates 15–30 GB and Stealthy Gaming 15–50 GB. We use the wider range.
Safety margin we add on top of install + patch
10 % E source
Our own rule of thumb. Consoles stage a download before unpacking it, and patches after launch need room too.

The PlayStation Store lists GTA 6 as PS5 Pro Enhanced C source. The Pro installs the same package as the PS5 and PS5 Slim: PS5 Pro Enhanced games ship one build that includes the Pro settings. If Rockstar adds higher-resolution textures for the Pro, the download could be a little larger on this model, and the calculator's margin covers that.

PS5 Pro storage: the box vs what you can use

Every console keeps part of its drive for the system. The usable column is what the storage settings screen shows on a fresh console.

The PS5 Pro has no disc drive; Sony sells the detachable drive separately. For GTA 6 that makes no difference, because the boxed edition is a download code.

GTA 6 performance on PS5 Pro

Frame rate on consoles
30 fps C source
Said by Rob Nelson, co-studio head at Rockstar North. No 60 fps or 40 fps mode has been announced, and Rockstar has not ruled one out for later.
PS5 Pro outlook
60 fps unlikely; the extra GPU power would go to image quality (PSSR, ray tracing) R source
Digital Foundry's view: the Pro's CPU is only ~7 % faster than the base PS5, which is not enough to double the frame rate.

If you are buying a Pro for 60 fps in GTA 6, wait for launch. Rockstar committed to 30 fps on consoles and has announced no Pro mode. The PS5 Pro Enhanced label on the PlayStation Store means the game has Pro-specific settings, and neither Rockstar nor Sony has said what they are. Digital Foundry calls 60 fps on the Pro extremely unlikely: the Pro's CPU is only about 7 % faster than the base PS5's, which is not enough to double the frame rate. Digital Foundry expects the extra GPU power to go into PSSR reconstruction, better ray-traced lighting and less shimmering on fine detail, which the trailer footage showed on the base console.

Some players hope for a 40 fps mode on 120 Hz screens. Nobody has reported one. We will list the real modes on the performance page once the settings menu is documented.

If it does not fit

  1. Free up space

Delete a game you have finished. Your saves stay on the console, and the game can come back later.

  2. Park games on USB

Move the games you are not playing to any USB drive and copy them back later instead of re-downloading.

  3. Add storage
