How many GB is GTA 6?

Rockstar has not published the size yet. Upcomer reported a leak of nearly 200 GB, and HowToPlayHub puts the estimate at 150–200 GB for PS5 and Xbox Series X. On Series S we expect 105–140 GB, because Microsoft says Series S installs average 30 % smaller. With the day-one patch of 15–50 GB and a 10 % margin, keep 275 GB free on PS5 or Series X and 209 GB on Series S. The stores show the exact size when pre-load opens on November 12, 2026.

Has Rockstar announced the official file size?

No. At our last check on October 22, 2026, Rockstar, the PlayStation Store and the Microsoft Store listed no size. The "677 GB" figure shared on social media has no source. The stores show a size once the download is available, so we expect it on November 12, 2026 and will update every page that day.

Will GTA 6 fit on the original 825 GB PS5?

Yes, if you have 275 GB free. The launch PS5 lets you use 667 GB, so after GTA 6 and its largest estimated patch you have about 417 GB left for everything else.

Will GTA 6 fit on an Xbox Series S?

Yes. The 512 GB Series S leaves you 364 GB, and GTA 6 needs about 209 GB of it with the patch and margin. That assumes the smaller Series S package of 105–140 GB. If Rockstar ships the full 150–200 GB package instead, plan for 275 GB. The 1 TB Series S has 800 GB usable.

When can I pre-load GTA 6?

At local midnight on November 12, 2026, a week before the November 19, 2026 release. It works for digital pre-orders and for boxed copies, which hold a download code instead of a disc. Free the space first: the console stores the download before it unpacks it.

Pre-load guide

How long will GTA 6 take to download?

On PS5 or Xbox Series X the game takes 3 h 20 min to 4 h 27 min at 100 Mbps, 40 min to 53 min at 500 Mbps and 20 min to 27 min at 1 Gbps. The day-one patch adds 20 min to 1 h 7 min at 100 Mbps. These are best cases at full line speed; Wi-Fi and busy launch-week servers make them longer.

How big will the day-one patch be?

Rockstar has not said. Driffle estimates 15–30 GB and Stealthy Gaming 15–50 GB. We use the wider range. The calculator adds that on top of the install size, and we will post the real number on launch day.

Day-one patch

Does the physical edition need the same amount of space?

Yes. The box holds a download code instead of a disc, so the whole game downloads from the store, exactly as a digital copy does.

Can I install GTA 6 on an external USB drive?

You can store it there but you cannot play it from there. On PS5 the game has to run from the internal SSD or an M.2 SSD in the expansion slot. On Xbox Series X|S it has to run from the internal SSD or a storage expansion card. A USB drive is still useful for the other games you move out of the way.

Does GTA 6 run at 60 fps on PS5 Pro or Xbox Series X?

No. Rob Nelson, co-studio head at Rockstar North, said the game runs at 30 fps on consoles, and no 60 fps or 40 fps mode has been announced. Digital Foundry calls 60 fps on PS5 Pro extremely unlikely, because the Pro's CPU is only about 7 % faster than the base PS5's. We will add measurements after launch.

Which console is best for GTA 6?

All of them target 30 fps, so storage and price decide it. The PS5 Pro has the most room: 1,640 GB left after GTA 6. Any PS5 or Series X costs less and fits the game with room for a few more. The 512 GB Series S has the least room. Whether the Pro looks better on screen will be clear only from the first comparisons.

What SSD do I need for GTA 6 on PS5?

Sony requires a PCIe Gen4 x4 NVMe M.2 drive of 250 GB to 8 TB with a heatsink, and recommends at least 5,500 MB/s sequential read. The WD_BLACK SN850X, Samsung 990 PRO, Seagate FireCuda 530R and Lexar NM790 meet that in their heatsink versions. A 1 TB drive holds GTA 6 with room for a few more large games.

How do I check how much free space I have?

On PS5, open Settings › Storage › Console Storage: it shows free space and a breakdown by games, media and saves. On Xbox Series X|S, open Settings › System › Storage devices: it lists every drive with used and free space. Enter the free figure in the calculator on the home page.

Is GTA 6 coming to PC?

Not at launch. Rockstar lists PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S only. GamesBeat reported a PC release in Q1 2027 (January to March), which Rockstar has not confirmed. Rockstar has published no PC system requirements, so any "PC requirements" you see now are guesses.

How big will GTA 6 be on PC?

There is no PC version yet, so there is no official size. For GTA V Enhanced and Red Dead Redemption 2, Rockstar asked for 1.2 to 1.5 times as much space on PC as the console install took. Applied to GTA 6, that gives about 180–300 GB on an SSD. This is our estimate; Rockstar has published no PC figure.

How we estimate the PC size

Why do you add a 10 % safety margin?

Because a console needs room beyond the game itself. It stores the download before unpacking it, and patches after launch need space too. 10 % on top of the install and the patch is our own rule of thumb. If your free space is below that line, the calculator says "tight" instead of "fits".

What do the C, R and E badges mean?

C means an official source confirms the figure: Rockstar, Sony, Microsoft or a manufacturer's spec sheet. R means the press or reviewers reported it, often from measurements on real hardware. E means an estimate: a leak, a community figure or our own calculation. Every number links to its source on the Sources page.
