How many GB is GTA 6? Rockstar has not published the size yet. Upcomer reported a leak of nearly 200 GB, and HowToPlayHub puts the install at 150–200 GB E source on PS5 and Xbox Series X. On Series S expect about 105–140 GB E source, because Microsoft says Series S installs average 30 % smaller. The day-one patch adds 15–50 GB E source. Keep 275 GB free on PS5 or Series X and 209 GB on Series S. The stores will list the exact size when pre-load opens on November 12, 2026.

Verdict
Fits.
Even the largest estimate, with the day-one patch and a 10 % margin, fits in your free space.
PS5 Slim (1 TB), internal SSD (assumed empty)
These are estimates until the stores list the real size on pre-load day. The sources page shows how we count.
Where each number comes from and what could change it. We replace the estimates with the store listings on the day pre-load opens.
Rockstar's last two console releases, as the stores listed them at launch, next to the current GTA 6 estimate.
| Game | Platform | Install size | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Grand Theft Auto VI (estimate) | PS5 / Xbox Series X | 150–200 GB E | source |
| Grand Theft Auto VI (estimate) | Xbox Series S | 105–140 GB E | source |
| Grand Theft Auto V (2022 version) | PS5 | 87 GB R | source |
| Red Dead Redemption 2 | PS4 | 99 GB R | source |
Even the low end of the estimate is 1.7 times the size of GTA V on PS5. The "677 GB" figure shared on social media has no source; it would be 7 times the size of Red Dead Redemption 2 on PS4.
The game installs to one drive, so we check the drive with the most room: the internal SSD, or your M.2 SSD or expansion card if it has more free space.
Fits.
Free space ≥ largest estimate + largest patch + 10 %
Even the largest estimate, with the day-one patch and a 10 % margin, fits in your free space.
Tight.
Free space ≥ smallest estimate + smallest patch, but short of the line above
It fits only if the final size lands near the low end of the estimates. Free a little more space before pre-load day.
Won't fit.
Free space < smallest estimate + smallest patch
Even the smallest estimate does not fit. Free up space or add storage.
Usable space is what the console lets you install into, which is less than the number on the box. The bar shows how much of an empty drive GTA 6 would take at the largest estimate.
Rockstar has not published the size yet. Upcomer reported a leak of nearly 200 GB, and HowToPlayHub puts the estimate at 150–200 GB for PS5 and Xbox Series X. On Series S we expect 105–140 GB, because Microsoft says Series S installs average 30 % smaller. With the day-one patch of 15–50 GB and a 10 % margin, keep 275 GB free on PS5 or Series X and 209 GB on Series S. The stores show the exact size when pre-load opens on November 12, 2026.
No. At our last check on October 22, 2026, Rockstar, the PlayStation Store and the Microsoft Store listed no size. The "677 GB" figure shared on social media has no source. The stores show a size once the download is available, so we expect it on November 12, 2026 and will update every page that day.
Yes. The 512 GB Series S leaves you 364 GB, and GTA 6 needs about 209 GB of it with the patch and margin. That assumes the smaller Series S package of 105–140 GB. If Rockstar ships the full 150–200 GB package instead, plan for 275 GB. The 1 TB Series S has 800 GB usable.
On PS5 or Xbox Series X the game takes 3 h 20 min to 4 h 27 min at 100 Mbps, 40 min to 53 min at 500 Mbps and 20 min to 27 min at 1 Gbps. The day-one patch adds 20 min to 1 h 7 min at 100 Mbps. These are best cases at full line speed; Wi-Fi and busy launch-week servers make them longer.
Rockstar has not said. Driffle estimates 15–30 GB and Stealthy Gaming 15–50 GB. We use the wider range. The calculator adds that on top of the install size, and we will post the real number on launch day.
You can store it there but you cannot play it from there. On PS5 the game has to run from the internal SSD or an M.2 SSD in the expansion slot. On Xbox Series X|S it has to run from the internal SSD or a storage expansion card. A USB drive is still useful for the other games you move out of the way.
There is no PC version yet, so there is no official size. For GTA V Enhanced and Red Dead Redemption 2, Rockstar asked for 1.2 to 1.5 times as much space on PC as the console install took. Applied to GTA 6, that gives about 180–300 GB on an SSD. This is our estimate; Rockstar has published no PC figure.
