GTA 6 PC file size: how many GB will the PC version need?

There is no PC version of GTA 6 yet, so there is no official PC file size. Rockstar lists PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S only, and GamesBeat reports a PC release in Q1 2027 (January to March). Going by Rockstar's last two PC releases, expect the PC install to need about 180–300 GB, more than on console.

GTA V reached PC about a year and a half after its console launch. A release in the first quarter of 2027 would be a far shorter wait. GamesBeat's report is unconfirmed, and Rockstar has not commented. When Rockstar publishes PC requirements, this page switches from estimate to the official storage figure the same day.

How big GTA 6 will be on PC

Rockstar's last two PC releases asked for more space than the same games took on console. That ratio is the basis for our estimate.

Red Dead Redemption 299 GB (PS4) R source150 GB R source1.5×
Grand Theft Auto V87 GB (PS5) R source105 GB C source1.2×
Grand Theft Auto VI150–200 GB E180–300 GB E1.2–1.5×

Applying the GTA V ratio to the low end of the console estimate and the RDR2 ratio to the high end gives 180–300 GB E source. PC requirements include headroom for installing and updating, which is one reason they run higher than console download sizes.

GTA V Enhanced requires an SSD at minimum and recommends a DirectStorage-compatible one C source. Red Dead Redemption 2 asked for hard drive space in 2019. Rockstar has not said what GTA 6 will need.

What to do now if you want to play on PC

  • Plan for an NVMe SSD with at least 300 GB free for the game alone. A 1 TB drive just for games leaves room for a few more.
  • Any of the drives on our PS5 SSD list works in a PC as well; you can skip the heatsink versions if your motherboard has its own M.2 cover.
  • Treat "GTA 6 PC requirements" and "can I run it" charts as guesses until Rockstar publishes official specs. Nothing about CPU, GPU or memory has been announced.
